Introduction to the wealth and diversity of Chicana and Chicano Studies research from a variety of disciplinary perspectives through the use of a series of historical and social scientific studies, novels, testimonies, and films.

Basic concepts and processes, including historic overview, of inter-ethnic relations in the United States: culture, race, ethnicity, ethnocentrism, prejudice, discrimination, racism, assimilation, acculturation, and individual and group responses to inter-ethnic contact. EGR1102 Use MATLAB to solve engineering problems. An overview of programming, including matrices, structures, strings, functions, control flow, file management, data analysis, graphing capabilities, and mathematical calculations.

Introduction to international literature through various forms of literary expression; e.g., poetry, drama, essay, biography, autobiography, short story, and novel. Provides a global overview of literature with special emphasis on diverse cultural contributions of women, African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Native Americans. Introduction to the works of Mexican-American writers of the Southwest. Samples poetry, fiction, and essays viewed in their relationship to American cultural heritage and to contemporary culture. Prerequisites: None.
